Röntgensugárot

Röntgensugárot, also known as X-rays, are a form of electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths ranging from 0.01 to 10 nanometers, corresponding to photon energies between 120 eV and 120 keV. They were discovered by Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen in 1895, who initially referred to them as "X-strahlen" due to their unknown nature.

X-rays are produced when high-energy electrons strike a metal target. This process can occur in X-ray tubes, which are commonly used in medical imaging. The ability of X-rays to penetrate matter varies depending on the density and atomic number of the material. Denser materials, like bone, absorb X-rays more effectively than less dense materials, such as soft tissue, creating contrast in radiographic images.

Medically, röntgensugárot are crucial for diagnostics, allowing visualization of bones, teeth, and internal organs. They are also used in cancer treatment (radiotherapy) to damage or destroy cancerous cells. In industry, X-rays are employed for quality control, inspecting welds, and examining the internal structure of objects.

While beneficial, prolonged or excessive exposure to X-rays can be harmful, as they are ionizing radiation capable of damaging biological tissues and increasing the risk of cancer. Therefore, safety precautions and dose limitations are strictly enforced in their use.
