Rõngastust

Rõngastust, also known as ringworm, is a common fungal infection that primarily affects the skin, hair, and nails. It is caused by a group of fungi known as dermatophytes, which thrive in warm, moist environments. The infection is typically spread through direct contact with an infected person or animal, or by touching contaminated surfaces. Rõngastust can manifest in various forms, including:

- Tinea corporis: A red, itchy rash that appears on the trunk of the body.

- Tinea capitis: A scalp infection that causes red, scaly patches and hair loss.

- Tinea pedis: A fungal infection of the feet, often leading to itching, redness, and scaling.

- Tinea cruris: An infection of the groin area, causing redness, itching, and scaling.

- Tinea unguium: A nail infection that results in thickened, discolored nails.

The diagnosis of rõngastust is usually based on the appearance of the infection and can be confirmed through a skin biopsy or fungal culture. Treatment options include topical antifungal creams, oral antifungal medications, and in some cases, oral or topical griseofulvin. Prevention involves maintaining good hygiene, avoiding close contact with infected individuals, and keeping the skin dry and clean.
