Rypistymättömyyskäsittelyt, also known as wrinkle-resistant treatments or permanent press finishes, are processes applied to fabrics to reduce their tendency to crease and wrinkle. These treatments are commonly used on cotton and cotton-blend fabrics to improve their ease of care.

The primary mechanism behind these treatments involves altering the cellulose fibers of the fabric. Typically, a chemical resin is applied to the fabric, which then cures or cross-links the cellulose chains. This cross-linking makes the fibers more resistant to deformation, meaning they spring back to their original shape more readily after being bent or creased.

Different types of resins and application methods exist, each with varying degrees of effectiveness, durability, and potential impact on the fabric's feel and strength. Some older methods, like the Hall process, involved formaldehyde-based resins, which have largely been replaced by lower-formaldehyde or formaldehyde-free alternatives due to health and environmental concerns. Modern treatments aim to achieve wrinkle resistance while minimizing changes to the fabric's breathability and softness.
