Rykkersgebyr, a Danish term, translates to reminder fee or late fee in English. It is a charge levied by a creditor on a debtor who has failed to meet a payment deadline for an invoice or debt. The purpose of a rykkersgebyr is to compensate the creditor for the administrative costs and effort involved in reminding the debtor about the overdue payment and pursuing collection.

The implementation and amount of a rykkersgebyr are typically outlined in the original contract or terms and conditions agreed upon between the creditor and the debtor. In Denmark, there are legal regulations that govern the maximum amount a creditor can charge as a rykkersgebyr, often linked to a percentage of the overdue amount or a fixed sum, designed to prevent excessive charges.

When a payment becomes overdue, the creditor will usually send a reminder, and if payment is still not received, a rykkersgebyr may be added to the outstanding balance. Subsequent reminders might incur additional fees, depending on the creditor's policy and applicable laws. Debtors are legally obligated to pay both the original debt and any valid rykkersgebyr.
