Ryait

Ryait is a fictional city and regional capital in the eastern Valorian mainland, created for world-building and storytelling. It sits at the mouth of the Ryai River, near the delta of the Leth, and is the administrative center of the eastern Valoria Province. The city covers about 180 square kilometers and has a population of roughly 320,000, with a temperate maritime climate that features mild winters and warm summers.

Founded as a river crossing in the 9th century, Ryait grew as a trade and administration hub under successive Valorian states. In the Industrial Era (late 19th century), the city expanded its port facilities and rail links, fostering manufacturing and logistics. The 20th century saw urban renewal projects that preserved the Old Town while developing a modern business district.

Ryait is administered by a mayor-council government within Valoria's decentralised framework. The city is divided into five districts, each with its own council office and services, while the provincial government handles regional planning and transportation policy.

The economy centers on logistics, manufacturing, and services. The port handles international freight, while a regional airport and a light-rail network connect the city to surrounding towns. The university and research institutes contribute to engineering, information technology, and life sciences.

The population is predominantly Valorian, with communities of bilingual speakers in Ryaitan dialects. Cultural life centers on the Old Town, the Ryait Opera House, and annual festivals such as the River Festival. Education institutions include the University of Ryait and the Institute of Technology.
