It is typically associated with rural riverine communities where daily work and shared tasks structure social life. The practice often follows an annual cycle, though some groups hold additional sessions during times of hardship or celebration.

During rutiineihinsa, participants gather in a central space and perform a sequence of ritualized tasks. Common elements include a shared meal, the reading or recital of communal records and deeds, the exchange of symbolic tokens that signify responsibility, and collective singing or drumming. A period of silent reflection follows, allowing individuals to acknowledge past grievances and commit to future cooperation.

The ritual serves multiple functions: it helps reestablish trust after disputes, redistributes social obligations, and marks the passage of time within the community. Participation is frequently linked to lineage or status, with elders guiding proceedings and younger members presenting acts of service or testimony.
