Ruffle

Ruffle is a decorative frill added to garments and textiles. In sewing, a ruffle is created by gathering or pleating a strip of fabric along one edge and attaching it to a garment, collar, sleeve, or hem. Ruffles can vary in width, fullness, and fabric weight, producing a draped or layered look. They appear in historical fashions—from the voluminous cuffs of the 18th century to contemporary blouses and dresses—and in home textiles such as curtains and pillow trims. Lace, chiffon, and lightweight cotton are common materials for ruffles.
