Rubidiums
Rubidiums are a diverse group of bioluminescent microorganisms that inhabit shallow tropical lagoons and coastal brackish waters. They belong to the phylum Bacteriodota and are distinguished by their distinctive red pigmentation, a result of the presence of rubiflexin, a complex pigment that absorbs blue-green light and emits a reddish glow. The name “Rubidiums” originates from the Latin word rubidus, meaning red, in reference to their coloration.
Morphologically, members of the Rubidium genus range from spherical to elongated cells, measuring 3 to 8 micrometres
Ecologically, Rubidiums play an important role in nutrient cycling. They fix atmospheric nitrogen and break down
Human interest in Rubidiums has increased due to potential applications in biofuel production and bioremediation. Laboratory
