Ruanda-Urundi was a sovereign state that existed from 1962 to 1964, following the dissolution of the Belgian Congo. The country was formed by the merger of the territories of Rwanda and Burundi, which had been under Belgian colonial rule. The merger was a result of political and social pressures, as well as the desire to create a unified state that could better resist external influences.
