Rozum

Rozum is the Polish term for the rational faculty of the human mind responsible for thinking, understanding, judging, and planning. It denotes the capacity to form concepts, reason about relations, draw inferences, and solve problems. In everyday language it is also linked to practical sense and good judgment, contrasting with emotions and sensory experience.

Etymology and usage: The word derives from a root associated with unfolding or developing understanding. Related forms include rozumieć (to understand), rozumienie (understanding), and rozumność (intelligence). In common speech, rozum can mean both the abstract faculty of reason and practical sensibility, as in having a sound or sensible rozum.
