Rozmezími

Rozmezími is not a widely recognized term in standard Czech dictionaries and does not have a fixed, widely accepted definition in mainstream linguistic or technical literature. In many cases, it is encountered as a nonstandard or dialectal form, or as a morphological variant of the noun rozmezí, rather than as an independent concept.

Etymology and grammar

Rozmezí means interval, range, or span. The form rozmezími resembles the instrumental plural ending found in some Czech nouns, which would theoretically yield a meaning like “with ranges” or “by ranges.” However, in standard Czech this instrumental plural usage is rare or considered incorrect for rozmezí in everyday writing. When speakers or writers intend to refer to multiple ranges, the common and accepted alternatives are to use the plural rozmezí (in fixed expressions) or to employ prepositional phrases such as v rozmezích (in the ranges) or rozmezí teplot (range of temperatures) depending on the context.

Usage and guidance

Because rozmezími is not established in formal language, its appearance is typically limited to dialectal texts, experimental writing, or errors/misspellings in nonstandard usage. In formal, technical, or academic Czech, it is advisable to use rozmezí or the conventional prepositional constructions (in rozmezích, v rozmezí, rozmezí hodnot, rozmezí teplot, etc.) to avoid ambiguity or grammatical incongruity.
