Rozhodnutí

Rozhodnutí is a Czech noun meaning a decision, resolution, or determination. It denotes the result of choosing among options or a formal act issued by an individual or an organization. The term is used in everyday language to describe personal choices as well as in formal contexts to designate official statements with legal or administrative effect.

Origin and form: The word is derived from the verb rozhodnout (to decide) and the suffix -nutí, which forms nouns describing results or processes. In speech and writing, rozhodnutí is often accompanied by related verbs such as rozhodovat se (to decide, to be inclined).

In legal and administrative contexts, rozhodnutí refers to official acts with potentially binding consequences. Examples include Rozhodnutí soudu (court decision) and Rozhodnutí správního orgánu (decision of a public authority). Such decisions typically specify the facts, the legal basis, and the conclusions, and they are usually subject to appeal or review within a prescribed period (for example by odvolání or dovolání).

Practical notes: A decision may become final (pravomocné) after the expiry of the appeal period or after exhaustion of remedies.
