Rossumins are a hypothetical class of extraterrestrial beings proposed in certain speculative scientific and science fiction contexts. The concept typically envisions organisms whose biochemistry is not based on carbon, as is all known terrestrial life, but rather on silicon. Silicon, being in the same group as carbon in the periodic table, shares some similar chemical properties, leading to the theoretical possibility of silicon-based life.
