Ropar

Ropar, also known as Rupnagar, is a city and a municipal council in the Rupnagar district in the Indian state of Punjab. It is situated on the banks of the Sutlej River, one of the five major rivers of the Punjab region. The city is located in the northeastern part of Punjab, close to the Himalayan foothills.

Historically, Ropar is a significant site. It is believed to be one of the oldest cities in India, with archaeological evidence suggesting human settlement dating back to the Harappan civilization. Excavations at the Ropar site have unearthed artifacts and structures providing valuable insights into the Indus Valley Civilization. The city also holds religious importance for Sikhs, as it is home to Gurudwara Bhatta Sahib, associated with Guru Hargobind.
