Rippler

Rippler is a decentralized, open-source blockchain platform designed to facilitate secure and efficient peer-to-peer transactions. Built on a proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, Rippler aims to provide a scalable and energy-efficient alternative to traditional proof-of-work (PoW) blockchains like Bitcoin. The platform supports its native cryptocurrency, Ripple (XRP), which is used for cross-border payments, remittances, and financial settlements.

One of Rippler’s key features is its use of the XRP Ledger (XRPL), a high-performance blockchain that processes transactions in near real-time with low fees. The network is maintained by a decentralized network of validators, known as Unique Node List (UNL) participants, who collectively secure the ledger. Unlike some blockchains that rely on mining, Rippler’s PoS model reduces energy consumption while maintaining security and decentralization.

Rippler also integrates with traditional financial systems through partnerships with banks and payment providers. Its protocol enables instant, low-cost cross-border transactions by leveraging pre-funded liquidity pools, eliminating the need for intermediaries in many cases. This makes it particularly useful for global remittances and institutional settlements.

The project was initially developed by Ripple Labs, a company founded in 2012, though Rippler itself operates as an independent, community-driven blockchain. The XRP Ledger continues to evolve through open-source contributions, with ongoing improvements in functionality, security, and interoperability. Rippler is often distinguished from Ripple (the company) to clarify its role as a decentralized infrastructure rather than a corporate entity.
