Rinnakkaisvirtaustyyppi refers to a specific flow arrangement in heat exchangers, a device designed to transfer heat between two or more fluids. In a parallel flow heat exchanger, both fluids enter the exchanger at the same end and flow in the same direction. This means the hot fluid and the cold fluid move alongside each other, from the inlet to the outlet, without reversing direction.

The temperature difference between the two fluids is greatest at the inlet and gradually decreases along the length of the heat exchanger. As the hot fluid loses heat, its temperature drops, and as the cold fluid absorbs heat, its temperature rises. In an ideal parallel flow exchanger, the outlet temperature of the cold fluid can approach the inlet temperature of the hot fluid, but it can never exceed it. Similarly, the outlet temperature of the hot fluid will always be higher than the outlet temperature of the cold fluid.

This flow configuration is relatively simple to design and construct. However, it is generally less efficient in terms of heat transfer compared to counter-current flow. The decreasing temperature difference along the exchanger limits the rate of heat transfer as the fluids move further through the device. Despite this limitation, parallel flow heat exchangers are suitable for applications where a significant temperature change is not critical, or where simplicity and cost are primary considerations. They are often used in applications such as radiators in vehicles or certain types of simple coolers.
