Ringleiding

Ringleiding, known in English as ring leadership, refers to the role or position of leading a criminal ring or organized crime group. The ringleider coordinates planning, recruitment, resource procurement, and the distribution of illicit proceeds.

The term is used in criminology and law enforcement, particularly in Dutch-speaking contexts, to identify the central organizer within a network. Not every member is a ringleider, and many rings have multiple layers of leadership and influence.

Responsibilities of a ringleider typically include setting targets, assigning tasks, monitoring members, managing finances, and negotiating with other groups. They may conceal operations through front companies, shell banks, or money laundering schemes.

In legal terms, leading a criminal organization is criminalized in many jurisdictions and can carry enhanced penalties compared with individual offenses. The exact statutes and severity depend on the jurisdiction and the nature of the ring's activities.
