Rillieux

Rillieux is a commune in the Ain department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in eastern France. It is located in the Ain river valley, north of Lyon. The commune was formed in 1973 by the merger of two former communes, Rillieux and Crépieux-la-Pape.

The area of Rillieux has been inhabited since prehistoric times, with evidence of early human settlement found in the vicinity. During the Roman period, it was part of the Roman province of Gallia Lugdunensis. The medieval period saw the development of agricultural communities and the construction of several churches and chapels, some of which still exist today. The Lords of Rillieux were influential figures in the local history.
