Riksvägverket
Riksvägverket, meaning "The National Road Administration" in English, was a Swedish government agency responsible for the planning, construction, and maintenance of Sweden's national roads. Established in 1944, it played a crucial role in developing and managing the country's road network, which is essential for transportation and economic activity. The agency's responsibilities included setting standards for road construction, overseeing major infrastructure projects, and ensuring the safety and efficiency of the road system. Riksvägverket also worked on traffic management and road safety initiatives. In 2010, Riksvägverket was merged with other transport authorities to form Trafikverket, the Swedish Transport Administration. This consolidation aimed to create a more integrated and efficient approach to managing all forms of public transport infrastructure, including roads, railways, and ferries. The legacy of Riksvägverket continues within Trafikverket, which now handles the overarching responsibility for Sweden's transportation infrastructure.
