Riigiprokurör

Riigiprokurör is the chief prosecutor of Estonia. This office is the highest prosecuting authority in the country, responsible for overseeing all criminal prosecutions and ensuring the consistent application of criminal law. The Riigiprokurör is appointed by the President of Estonia upon nomination by the Minister of Justice and with the approval of the Supreme Court. The term of office is typically five years, with a possibility of reappointment.

The responsibilities of the Riigiprokurör are broad and include representing the state in criminal proceedings, particularly in complex and high-profile cases. They also play a crucial role in developing prosecutorial policy, providing guidance to lower-level prosecutors, and coordinating their work.
