Typically, a riddlewhile piece presents a short passage in which various lines or sentences conceal information through acrostics, allusions, homonyms, or letter-substitution. The intended solution is usually a single word or short phrase that satisfies the concealed clues. The reader must disentangle multiple clue layers, sometimes requiring cross-reference with a title, author notes, or subtle motifs.
