Respirátorok

Respirátorok, commonly known as respirators, are personal protective equipment designed to protect the wearer from inhaling airborne particles, including dust, fumes, mists, and biological agents like viruses and bacteria. They function by filtering the air before it is inhaled, creating a barrier against contaminants. Unlike surgical masks, which primarily protect others from the wearer's respiratory droplets, respirators are fitted to the face to create a seal, ensuring that inhaled air is drawn through the filter material.

There are various types of respirators, categorized by their design and filtration capabilities. Filtering facepiece respirators, often referred to as N95 respirators (in the United States) or FFP2/FFP3 masks (in Europe), are disposable and offer a high level of filtration for fine particles. Reusable respirators, often made of silicone or rubber, utilize replaceable cartridges or filters that can be tailored to specific hazards. These can range from particulate filters to those designed to remove gases and vapors.

The effectiveness of a respirator relies on a proper fit and correct usage. A tight seal is crucial to prevent unfiltered air from leaking around the edges. Fit testing is often recommended to ensure the respirator provides adequate protection for the individual wearer. Respirators are used in a wide range of environments, including healthcare settings, industrial workplaces, construction sites, and during public health emergencies such as pandemics. Their selection depends on the specific type and concentration of airborne contaminants present.
