Repäisystesti, also known as the Sitting-Rising Test, is a simple exercise used to evaluate a person's muscle strength and overall physical fitness. The test was developed by Finnish physician Mauri Auala and his team in the 1980s. The Repäisystesti is also known as the "Muscle Power Test" and it was designed to assess an individual's ability to perform everyday tasks, such as rising from a seated position, which is a crucial function for maintaining independence and mobility in old age.

The test involves a person sitting in a chair and then deciding whether or not they can stand up from the seated position without using their hands. If a person is not able to stand up, the test is repeated until they are able to get up without support. If the person successfully stands up from the seated position but returns to sit down on their own without being prompted, the test is considered passed.

The Repäisystesti has been widely used in healthcare settings in Finland and other countries to assess the muscle strength of older adults and to evaluate their risk of falls. Low scores on the test have been associated with a higher risk of falls, disability, and mortality in older adults. A score of 10 or less on the test indicates a low level of muscle strength and a higher risk for adverse outcomes. The test is considered a reliable and practical method for evaluating muscle strength and overall health in older adults.
