Repülterek is a fictional concept used in speculative fiction to describe airborne settlements or habitats that float above the landscape. The name derives from Hungarian repül, meaning “to fly,” and tér, meaning “space,” and is commonly translated as “flying spaces” or “airborne habitats.” In most depictions, repülterek are constructed as buoyant platforms or ships with a buoyant envelope—such as a gas bag or layered fabric—supported by a lightweight frame. They move by wind currents and sail-assisted propulsion, using anchoring lines and ballast to maintain stability. Living quarters, farms, and workshops are arranged around central hubs, with water and fuel stored in insulated bays.
