Reoveeärastusest

Reoveeärastusest is the Estonian term for wastewater treatment. It refers to the process of removing contaminants from household sewage and industrial wastewater before it is discharged into the environment or reused. This process is crucial for protecting public health and the environment from the harmful effects of untreated wastewater, which can contain pathogens, chemicals, and other pollutants.

Tertiary treatment, if implemented, involves advanced methods to remove specific pollutants, such as nutrients or pathogens, to meet stringent discharge standards.

Sludge, the solid byproduct of wastewater treatment, also requires management and disposal. This can involve dewatering, digestion, and further treatment before being landfilled, incinerated, or beneficially reused, for instance, as fertilizer.
