Rejsetid

Rejsetid, or travel time, is the total time required to travel from an origin to a destination. In transport planning it is commonly defined as the interval between departure and arrival and can be specified at different levels of detail. For point-to-point analyses, rejsetid may focus on the core travel leg, while door-to-door analyses often include walking, waiting, transfers, and in-vehicle time.

In car travel, time is mainly driving time; in public transport, rejsetid includes in-vehicle time, waiting time for vehicles, and transfer time. For multimodal trips, walking segments and transfer times are often substantial components.

Measurement and data: Planned travel times use timetable data and speed assumptions; observed travel times are derived from GPS, mobile data, or user reports. Travel-time matrices estimate times between many origin–destination pairs, while isochrones show areas reachable within a fixed time.

Applications: Rejsetid is used to design routes and timetables, assess accessibility, and evaluate infrastructure investments. It also informs traveler information and reliability analyses, which consider the variability of travel times and probabilities of meeting target times.

Limitations: Travel time varies by time of day, day of week, weather, incidents, and mode. Definitions differ across studies, and data quality or sampling bias can affect estimates.
