Regurgiteeritakse

Regurgiteeritakse is an Estonian word that translates to "is regurgitated" in English. Regurgitation itself is the involuntary expulsion of food or fluid from the stomach or esophagus. This process is distinct from vomiting, which is a more forceful expulsion involving contractions of the abdominal muscles.

Regurgitation can occur in various situations and for different reasons. In infants, it is a common and often normal occurrence due to their immature digestive systems. This is frequently referred to as "spitting up." In adults, regurgitation can be a symptom of underlying medical conditions. Esophageal motility disorders, such as achalasia, can impair the normal movement of food down the esophagus, leading to regurgitation. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is another common cause, where stomach contents flow back into the esophagus, sometimes resulting in regurgitation. Hiatal hernias can also contribute to this issue by altering the anatomy of the esophagus and stomach.

The substance that is regurgitated can vary. It may be undigested food, stomach acid, or mucus. The frequency and severity of regurgitation can range from occasional and minor to persistent and distressing, depending on the underlying cause. Diagnosis of the cause typically involves medical history, physical examination, and sometimes diagnostic tests like endoscopy or esophageal manometry. Treatment strategies are tailored to the specific cause and may include dietary changes, medication, or surgical intervention.
