Regukaiden

Regukaiden is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Katsuhiro Otomo. It was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump from 1999 to 2002, and later collected into six tankoubon volumes. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity has been decimated by a mysterious virus known as the "Regu Virus." The remaining survivors are divided into two factions: the "Regu" and the "Non-Regu." The Regu are those who have been infected and possess enhanced abilities, while the Non-Regu are the uninfected, who view the Regu with fear and suspicion.

The narrative follows the journey of a young boy named Kaito, who is a Non-Regu, and his quest to uncover the truth behind the Regu Virus and the origins of the Regu. Along the way, Kaito encounters various characters, including other Non-Regu survivors, Regu with different abilities, and mysterious figures who hold the key to the virus's origins. The story explores themes of survival, identity, and the human condition in a harsh and unforgiving world.

Regukaiden is known for its dark and gritty atmosphere, as well as its complex and thought-provoking storyline. The manga has been praised for its unique concept and its exploration of the human psyche in a post-apocalyptic setting. Despite its popularity in Japan, Regukaiden has not gained as much international recognition as some of Otomo's other works, such as Akira.
