Regelbereich

Regelbereich is a German term used in engineering and related disciplines to denote the range within which a system, device or process can be regulated or controlled effectively. The term combines Regel (regulation, control) and Bereich (range, domain) and is used in a broad sense, sometimes interchangeably with terms like Arbeitsbereich or Messbereich depending on context.

In control engineering, der Regelbereich refers to the portion of the controlled variable range over which a regulator can steer the process to the desired setpoint with acceptable accuracy. Within this range the system's behavior is sufficiently linear and the regulator can maintain stability; beyond it, actuator saturation, nonlinearity, or time delays may degrade performance.

In measurement and actuation, der Regelbereich can describe the range of a sensor or actuator over which regulation actions are meaningful or effective. For example, a voltage regulator may have a regulated output region from a specified minimum to maximum voltage, and a thermostat may regulate room temperature only within a supported temperature window.

The term is thus context-dependent and may refer to different concrete ranges. It is related to the general concepts of regulation, control range, operating range, and the limits of a device’s regulation capability. Proper specification typically includes the exact numerical boundaries, tolerance, and conditions (e.g., load, temperature, supply voltage) to define den Regelbereich.
