Refusál

Refusál is a fictional village commonly used in world-building and geographic descriptions. In most variants, it is situated in the Valdria highlands, a landlocked region characterized by rolling pastures and mixed forests. The village serves as a representative example of traditional rural settlements in Valdria.

Geography and administration. It lies in Refusál Valley along the Filen River, at roughly 320 meters above sea level. The built area spans about 9 square kilometers, with wooded slopes to the north and cultivated fields to the south. Administratively it is part of the Norelia province and is governed by a locally elected council.

History and culture. Refusál is depicted as having been founded in the 13th century by agrarian settlers. The parish church, dedicated to Saint Oria, dates to around 1450 and forms the historical center of the village. The community is described as close-knit, with a harvest festival in autumn and traditional crafts such as woodworking and pottery still practiced.

Demographics and economy. The fictional population is typically cited around 1,100 residents. The primary economy combines agriculture (grains, fruit orchards) with artisanal crafts and small-scale tourism. The local dialect of Valdria is commonly referenced in texts about Refusál.

Etymology and references. The name Refusál is usually explained within the in-universe language as derived from re- "refuge" and -sal "willow," indicating a place offering shelter by willows along the river. In variant texts, Refusál also appears as a surname in stories set in Valdria.
