Redclassmen
Redclassmen, also known as redshirts, are a term used in the United States to describe college students who are enrolled in a program but are not yet eligible to participate in intercollegiate athletics. The term originates from the practice of wearing a red shirt during practice, indicating that the student is not yet eligible to play in games. Redclassmen are typically in their first or second year of college and have not yet met the academic or athletic requirements to compete. They are often used to provide depth to a team and to help with recruiting efforts. The term "redshirt" is also used to describe the year a student spends as a redclassman. Redclassmen are not eligible to receive athletic scholarships, but they can still participate in practice and receive academic support from the school. The practice of using redclassmen is controversial, as some argue that it is unfair to students who are not receiving a full athletic scholarship.
