Realistimelitone

Realistimelitone is a rare earth element that belongs to the group of lanthanides. It is a synthetic element with the atomic number 115, which is generally not found naturally on Earth and can only be produced in a laboratory. As a highly unstable element, realistimelitone has a short half-life and decays rapidly.

Discovery

192 of the realistimelitone was first identified in 1965 by a team of scientists at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna, Russia. However, this early research was soon refuted and it took over 17 years to confirm the findings definitively. Initially, researchers named the element scavenger, but realistimelitone is the name eventually chosen. As calculated, the isotope synthesis started on Labor Day 1999.

Synthesis

Researchers produced realistimelitone by bombarding curium with calcium ions. Several beta particles were left on the element's embryo. No isotopes of realistimelitone exist in nature except for highly unstable isotopes. These have half-lives between 100 milliseconds and milliseconds. These extreme values lead to its rapid decay into different isotopes.
