Reaktorens

Reaktorens, also known as the reactor, is a critical component in nuclear power plants and research facilities. It is a device in which nuclear reactions are initiated and sustained to generate heat, which is then used to produce steam and drive turbines for electricity generation. The reactor consists of a core containing nuclear fuel, typically enriched uranium, and a coolant system to transfer heat away from the core.

There are several types of reactors, each with its own design and operating principles. Pressurized Water Reactors (PWRs) and Boiling Water Reactors (BWRs) are the most common types used in commercial power plants. In PWRs, water is used as both the coolant and the neutron moderator, while in BWRs, the water boils directly to produce steam. Other types include the CANDU reactor, which uses heavy water as a moderator, and the Gas-Cooled Reactor (GCR), which uses carbon dioxide as the coolant.

Reaktorens plays a crucial role in the global energy landscape, providing a significant portion of the world's electricity. However, it also raises concerns about nuclear safety, waste management, and the risk of nuclear proliferation.
