Reaktiosäiliötyyppi refers to the classification or categorization of chemical reactors based on their fundamental operating principles and design characteristics. These types are crucial for understanding and selecting appropriate equipment for specific chemical processes. The most common classifications include batch reactors, continuous stirred-tank reactors (CSTRs), plug flow reactors (PFRs), and packed bed reactors.

A batch reactor operates on a non-continuous basis where reactants are loaded, allowed to react for a specific time, and then the products are removed. CSTRs are characterized by perfect mixing, meaning the contents are uniform throughout, and reactants and products are continuously added and removed. PFRs, also known as tubular or flow reactors, operate continuously with minimal axial mixing, resembling a tube where reactants flow through and react as they travel. Packed bed reactors are a type of PFR that contains a stationary bed of solid catalyst through which the fluid reactants flow.

Other classifications can exist, such as semi-batch reactors, which combine aspects of both batch and continuous operation.
