Reakciósebességi, or reaction rate, in chemistry refers to the speed at which a chemical reaction occurs. It quantifies how quickly reactants are consumed or how quickly products are formed over a specific period. This rate is typically measured in units of concentration per unit of time, such as molarity per second (mol/L·s).

Several factors influence reaction rates. The concentration of reactants is a primary factor; higher concentrations generally lead to faster reaction rates because there are more frequent collisions between reactant molecules. Temperature also plays a crucial role; increasing temperature usually accelerates reactions by providing molecules with more kinetic energy, leading to more frequent and energetic collisions. The presence of a catalyst, a substance that speeds up a reaction without being consumed itself, significantly increases the reaction rate by lowering the activation energy required for the reaction to proceed.

The physical state and surface area of reactants can also affect reaction speed, particularly in heterogeneous reactions where reactants are in different phases. A larger surface area allows for more contact between reactants, thus increasing the reaction rate. Understanding reaction rates is fundamental to chemical kinetics, a field that studies the mechanisms and rates of chemical reactions, and has wide-ranging applications in industrial processes, environmental science, and biological systems.
