Rauaoksidi

Rauaoksidi is the Estonian term for iron oxide. Iron oxides are chemical compounds composed of iron and oxygen. They are found naturally in many parts of the world and are responsible for the red and brown colors of many rocks and soils.

The most common form of iron oxide is rust, which is formed when iron reacts with oxygen and moisture. Rust is a reddish-brown, flaky substance that can weaken and damage iron objects. However, iron oxides are also used in a variety of industrial and commercial applications. For example, iron oxides are used as pigments in paints, ceramics, and cosmetics. They are also used in the production of magnets, in magnetic recording media, and as catalysts in chemical reactions.

Different types of iron oxides exist, each with slightly different properties. For instance, hematite (Fe2O3) is a common iron ore and a red pigment. Magnetite (Fe3O4) is a black, magnetic iron oxide. Goethite (FeO(OH)) is another common form, often found in soils and bogs. The specific chemical structure and crystalline form determine the color and other characteristics of the iron oxide.
