Rakennussections

Rakennussections, often translated as building sections or construction sections, refers to a fundamental concept in architectural and engineering drawings. It is a two-dimensional representation of a building or structure that is cut vertically through its mass. This cut reveals the internal arrangement, dimensions, and relationships between different parts of the building, such as walls, floors, ceilings, roofs, and structural elements.

Unlike elevations which show the exterior, or plans which show a horizontal slice, sections provide crucial insight into the vertical composition and construction. They are essential for understanding the building's height, the thickness of its materials, the integration of different levels, and the details of how components are connected. Architects and engineers use building sections to communicate design intent, ensure structural integrity, and guide the construction process. They are a critical part of the construction documentation set, allowing builders to accurately construct the project according to the design specifications. Different types of sections can be created, such as longitudinal sections running along the length of a building or transverse sections cutting across its width, depending on what information needs to be conveyed.
