It comprises a transmitter that emits radio waves, a receiver that detects the reflected waves, and processing circuitry to interpret the received signals.

The fundamental principle of radar operation involves emitting pulses of electromagnetic energy and then listening for echoes reflected off targets. The time it takes for the echo to return indicates the distance to the target. By measuring the direction of the returning waves, the system can determine the target's bearing. Doppler shift, the change in frequency of the reflected waves due to the target's motion, allows for the measurement of velocity.

Radar systems are employed across a wide array of applications. In aviation, they are crucial for air traffic control, navigation, and weather detection. Maritime radar is used for navigation and collision avoidance at sea. Weather radar monitors precipitation and atmospheric conditions. Military applications include surveillance, target tracking, and missile guidance.
