RSPO2s

RSPO2s, also known as R-spondin 2, is a protein encoded by the RSPO2 gene. This gene is part of a family of secreted proteins that play a crucial role in various biological processes, particularly in the Wnt signaling pathway. RSPO2s are known to enhance Wnt/beta-catenin signaling, a fundamental pathway involved in embryonic development, cell proliferation, differentiation, and tissue homeostasis.

The RSPO2 protein acts as a ligand for LRP5/LRP6 co-receptors, which are part of the Wnt receptor complex. By binding to these co-receptors, RSPO2s stabilize the receptor complex, thereby potentiating the downstream signaling cascade initiated by Wnt ligands. This amplification of Wnt signaling is essential for numerous developmental events, including organogenesis and the formation of various tissues.

Dysregulation of RSPO2 expression or function has been implicated in several diseases, including certain types of cancer. In some cancers, RSPO2 can act as an oncogene, promoting tumor growth and progression by over-activating Wnt signaling. Conversely, in other contexts, RSPO2 might have tumor-suppressive roles.
