RNPbased
RNPbased refers to a system or method that relies on Relative Navigation Pulsed (RNP) technology. RNP is a form of precise navigation used in aviation, particularly in approach and landing procedures. It allows aircraft to follow a defined path in space with a high degree of accuracy, even in areas without ground-based navigation aids. The "based" component signifies that the system or procedure is fundamentally structured around or dependent upon this RNP capability. For example, an RNP-based approach procedure is designed to be flown solely using the aircraft's onboard RNP system. This allows for more direct routes, reduced fuel consumption, and enhanced safety by enabling operations in lower visibility conditions. The implementation of RNP-based systems requires sophisticated onboard navigation equipment capable of processing GPS, inertial navigation system (INS) data, and other sensor inputs to calculate the aircraft's position with a specified level of integrity and accuracy. The term can also extend to other applications where pulsed navigation relative to known points is the core principle.
