RNAtekijöitä, also known as RNA polymerases, are crucial enzymes found in all living organisms. Their primary function is to synthesize RNA molecules from a DNA template through a process called transcription. This process is fundamental to gene expression, as RNA molecules serve as intermediaries that carry genetic information from DNA to the cellular machinery responsible for protein synthesis.

There are different types of RNA polymerases in various organisms, each specializing in transcribing specific types of RNA. For instance, in bacteria, a single RNA polymerase transcribes all types of RNA. In eukaryotes, however, there are multiple RNA polymerases, with RNA polymerase I transcribing ribosomal RNA, RNA polymerase II transcribing messenger RNA (mRNA) and some small nuclear RNAs, and RNA polymerase III transcribing transfer RNA (tRNA) and other small RNAs.

The mechanism of RNA synthesis involves the RNA polymerase binding to a promoter region on the DNA, unwinding the double helix, and then moving along the DNA strand, adding complementary ribonucleotides to a growing RNA chain. This process requires a DNA template, ribonucleotide triphosphates (ATP, UTP, CTP, and GTP), and various accessory factors.
