The RCD component detects imbalances in the electrical current, which can indicate a fault to earth, such as a person touching a live wire. If such an imbalance is detected, the RCD rapidly trips, interrupting the power supply to prevent electric shock. The MCB component, on the other hand, protects the electrical circuit from overcurrents, which include both overloads and short circuits.
