RAWkuvaaminen, or RAW photography, refers to the practice of capturing digital images in a RAW file format. Unlike standard JPEG files, RAW files are minimally processed and contain a direct stream of data from the camera's image sensor. This means they retain more of the original information, including a wider dynamic range and a greater depth of color information.

The primary advantage of shooting in RAW is the increased flexibility it offers during post-processing. Because RAW files are essentially unprocessed sensor data, they allow for more extensive adjustments to parameters like exposure, white balance, and color saturation without a significant loss of image quality. This is often described as having more "latitude" for editing.

When a photograph is taken in RAW format, it requires conversion or processing using specialized software before it can be viewed as a standard image file like a JPEG or TIFF. This processing step allows the photographer to fine-tune various aspects of the image according to their creative vision.

However, RAW files are significantly larger than JPEGs, which can consume more storage space on memory cards and internal camera memory. They also require more computational power and time for processing, both in-camera and on a computer. Not all cameras offer the RAW shooting option, and those that do may have different implementations of the RAW format. Despite the increased workflow, many professional and enthusiast photographers prefer RAWkuvaaminen for its superior image quality and editing potential.
