RAWfeldolgozás, commonly referred to as RAW processing, is a digital image editing technique that involves converting the unprocessed data from a digital camera's sensor into a viewable image. Unlike the JPEG format, which is processed and compressed by the camera's internal software, RAW files contain the raw, unadulterated data captured by the image sensor. This approach offers photographers a greater degree of flexibility and control during post-production.

The primary advantage of RAW processing lies in the preservation of a wider range of image information, including greater detail in highlights and shadows, and a more extensive color depth. This allows for more aggressive adjustments to exposure, white balance, color saturation, and sharpness without significant loss of image quality. Editing software like Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop (with Camera Raw), Capture One, and DxO PhotoLab are commonly used for RAW processing.

When a photographer shoots in RAW format, the camera records the data as it is captured by the sensor, including metadata such as ISO, aperture, and shutter speed. This data is then opened in a RAW converter, which interprets the sensor data and applies user-defined adjustments. The output can then be exported into standard image formats like JPEG or TIFF. The non-destructive nature of RAW editing is another key benefit, as it allows changes to be made and reverted without altering the original RAW file. This makes it an essential workflow for professional and serious amateur photographers.
