Quasilongitarianism

Quasilongitarianism is a philosophical concept that combines elements of longitarianism and shortitarianism. Longitarianism is the ethical theory that favors the interests of future generations over those of the present, while shortitarianism prioritizes the interests of the present generation. Quasilongitarianism, therefore, is a balanced approach that acknowledges the importance of both present and future generations, but leans slightly towards the future.

The term "quasi" in quasilongitarianism indicates a preference or slight bias towards the future, but it does not mean that the interests of the present are entirely disregarded. This philosophy recognizes that while the present generation has a right to a good life, the future generations also deserve to inherit a world that is sustainable and equitable.

Quasilongitarianism can be applied in various fields, including environmental policy, economic planning, and social welfare. For instance, in environmental policy, a quasilongitarian approach might advocate for policies that protect the environment for future generations while also ensuring that the present generation can enjoy a high quality of life without depleting natural resources.

Critics of quasilongitarianism argue that it may lead to present generations being exploited for the benefit of future ones. Proponents, however, contend that a balanced approach that considers both present and future interests is more sustainable and just in the long run.
