Quantisointiväliä

Quantisointiväliä refers to the interval or range of values that a digital signal can represent after it has undergone quantization. In digital signal processing, continuous analog signals are converted into discrete digital signals through a process called analog-to-digital conversion (ADC). This process involves two main steps: sampling and quantization. Sampling captures the signal's amplitude at discrete points in time, and quantization assigns a specific discrete numerical value from a finite set of possible values to each sampled amplitude. The quantisointiväliä is the set of possible output values that the quantizer can produce.

The size and nature of the quantisointiväliä are determined by the number of bits used in the digital representation and the full-scale range of the analog signal. For example, an 8-bit ADC with a full-scale range of 0 to 10 volts would divide this range into 2^8 = 256 discrete levels. The quantisointiväliä would then consist of these 256 distinct values, each representing a specific range of the original analog signal. The resolution of the digital signal is directly related to the number of quantization levels, which in turn defines the quantisointiväliä. A larger quantisointiväliä, meaning more discrete levels, generally leads to a more accurate representation of the original analog signal, reducing quantization error.
