Qilishdi

Qilishdi is a verb form that appears in Uzbek and some related Turkic varieties. It is generally described as a past-tense variant related to the infinitive qilish, meaning “to do” or “to perform.” In modern standard Uzbek, the ordinary past tense for the third-person singular is qil-di (qildi). Therefore, qilishdi is not part of everyday contemporary Uzbek and is mainly found in dialectal speech, historical texts, or stylistic uses where archaic or regional forms are preserved.

Morphology and analysis vary among sources. One view treats qilishdi as a straightforward past-tense form derived from the verb qilish via the usual past suffix -di. Another perspective regards it as a relic of older Turkic verbal systems or as a periphrastic/compound construction in which the infinitival form qilish participates in a past-tense expression. The exact interpretation can depend on the regional variety or the historical period in question.

Usage and significance. Qilishdi is of interest primarily to linguists and students studying Uzbek morphology and historical Turkic linguistics. It illustrates how verb stems built with qil- and the -ish nominalizing suffix interact with past-tense markers in some dialects or historical stages, contrasting with the standardized modern forms.
