Qassim

Al-Qassim Province, commonly referred to as Qassim, is one of the thirteen administrative provinces of Saudi Arabia. It is located in the central part of the country, within the historical region of Najd, and its capital is Buraydah. Other major cities include Unayzah, Ar Rass, and Al-Bukairiyah.

Geography and climate: The province covers a largely arid plateau with pockets of irrigated agriculture. The climate is hot in summer and cool in winter, with most rainfall in the cooler months.

Economy and agriculture: Agriculture has long been a cornerstone of the Qassim economy, particularly date palms, cereals, vegetables, and dairy. The region utilizes modern irrigation and farming practices and is known for dates; Buraydah hosts a large annual Date Festival.

History and institutions: The area has historic settlements dating back to pre-Islamic times, later integrating into the Saudi state. In modern times, the province was established as an administrative unit and hosts educational and research institutions, including Qassim University in Buraydah.

Demographics and culture: The population includes urban and rural communities, with a distinctive Qassim Arabic dialect and cultural traditions tied to date palm cultivation and agrarian life.
