Qaid
Qaid, qa’id, or caid is a title derived from the Arabic word meaning leader or commander. The transliteration varies by language and region, with "qa'id" common in Arabic contexts and "caïd" used in Francophone countries. Historically the term has been applied to individuals who lead a group, a tribe, or a local armed force, and it has also functioned as an administrative designation in some states.
In North Africa and the broader Maghreb, the title caïd is an official rank within local government.
