QDOLED

QDOLED is a display technology that combines Quantum Dot (QD) color conversion with OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) emissive technology. In a QDOLED display, the blue OLED layer emits blue light. This blue light then passes through a Quantum Dot layer, which converts the blue light into red and green light. The red and green Quantum Dot layers are typically placed in a stack or pattern to create the full RGB color spectrum.

The primary advantage of QDOLED technology is its potential for enhanced color performance. Quantum Dots are known for their ability to emit highly pure and saturated colors, which can lead to a wider color gamut and improved color accuracy compared to traditional OLED or LCD displays. Additionally, because the light is emitted directly by the OLEDs and then converted by the QDs, QDOLED displays can achieve very high peak brightness levels while maintaining excellent contrast ratios and deep blacks, similar to conventional OLEDs.

The Quantum Dot color conversion layer allows for a simpler manufacturing process compared to some other QD display technologies, such as QD-OLED where each pixel is a QD-enhanced OLED. QDOLED technology aims to leverage the benefits of both Quantum Dots and OLEDs, offering a pathway to displays with superior color volume, brightness, and overall visual experience. Companies are actively developing and integrating QDOLED into consumer electronics like televisions and monitors.
